Cookridge Primary School
At Cookridge we are creative in cooking- we like to cook outdoors, in doors and grow our own food. In June we achieved 'Healthy Schools status'- we were moderated and they were very impressed with our cooking ethos in school. Alongside achieving Mindmate champions - we care about children's mental health. We have pupil Healthy ambassadors and they help us keep our school healthy - they do assemblies, run healthy tuck shops and got asked to present information about our healthy school at the Town Hall with the Mayor of Leeds. We have our own school garden and each class has a bed. We grow and cook and our own food and sell the surplus to parents for school funds. We have our own chickens we had from eggs, the children look after the chickens and we use their eggs to cook with. We often cook their eggs on the fire using our long handed pan - see the pictures! We have a specialist DT teacher who cooks with children in the afternoons. We mainly target pupil premium children, but all children get the opportunity to cook regularly throughout the year. We strongly believe that children learn better outside and are passionate about Forest schools.
