Big Soup Share

Goldthorpe Primary School

Here at Goldthorpe Primary School we always aim to inspire and educate our pupils about where their food comes from. This year on our school allotment our children have worked really hard to produce the best harvest we have had so far on our growing journey. The vegetables we produce head directly into our school made lunches. However our Eco-School Councillors thought it would be a great idea if we got involved with the RHS Big Soup Share. The Big Soup Share is a chance to celebrate the work we do in our allotment garden with the wider community. The children worked really hard harvesting, preparing and creating a hearty soup to share with our community through a local food bank. The children enjoy any opportunity to cook and it is fantastic to show them how they can turn a few simple ingredients into a delicious family meal. Our chunky allotment vegetable soup with lentils went down a storm with the children. We found that engaging children in growing and cooking activities helps them eat their greens.
