My Prize Trip to Paris 2024

“It was only when we were on the way to Paris that it started to sink in that it was actually happening.”

Rebecca Lett is a teacher at Arc Oakbridge School in Birmingham – a specialist SEND school, primarily focusing on pupils with Autism. In May 2024, she was scrolling through her Facebook feed, when she saw an advert for the Get Set to Eat Fresh teacher prize draw to win tickets to attend Paris 2024, later in the summer.

“I was initially interested in Get Set to Eat Fresh because, in my school, we do a lot of practical and life skills-based lessons including a lot of cooking. It's very easy to slip into the usual/standard recipes... the [recipes and resources on Get Set to Eat Fresh] looked different and easy to do with the kids and minimal preparation - which is ideal!”

She registered for an account to access the full range of Get Set to Eat fresh resources and was entered into our teacher tickets prize draw. A few months later, we got in touch to let her know that she had been selected as the winner of our prize draw, and she was on her way to Paris to see the Olympic Games in action!

“When I found out I won, I honestly couldn't believe it. It was only when we were on the way to Paris that it started to sink in that it was actually happening. When we arrived in Paris we were greeted, very warmly, by the hotel staff and were provided with transport cards [to get] around the city and Paris 2024 merchandise. We spent a pleasant evening in the city, going to see the Louvre and the Olympic Flame at sunset, which was truly spectacular.”

“The following day was spent at the Stade De France watching the athletics, including the high jump, 100m heats, discus and some decathlon events. Our seats were what I can only describe as a once in a lifetime opportunity, it is something I will never forget. “Following this we spent an enjoyable afternoon and evening seeing the Eiffel Tower and tasting some delectable French food. The evening was topped off by a trip to the Defense Arena to see the swimming. We got to see the legend that is Katie Ledecky win the 800m freestyle and a World Record be broken in the 4x100m mixed medley relay.”

“The entire experience was a dream come true... I have very fond memories of watching the Olympics as a child, and I will always particularly remember watching London 2012, including Super Saturday. But every Olympics before and after, including Paris 2024, gives me such pride of being British and that will never change. To witness that sense of pride in person was enough to bring a tear to my eye.”
